In April 2023, the first legal medical cannabis dispensaries opened in Georgia, allowing qualifying patients to purchase low-THC cannabis oil with their registry card. The state issues a "Low THC Oil Registry Card," allowing possession of up to 20 fluid ounces of low-THC oil for certified conditions. Unlike other states, Georgia prohibits the purchase or possession of cannabis in flower form, edibles, or vape pens. The state has decriminalized cannabis possession, imposing fines instead of jail time. Although Georgia continues to certify residents for low-THC oil, efforts are being made to push for full recreational use, but unresolved license lawsuits are causing delays.
Georgia lists the following as qualifying medical conditions:
Consult with a FadeMD doctor for 10-15 minutes to evaluate your medical conditions. After the appointment is complete and if you are approved, the doctor will fill out a waiver form (signed by you and the doctor) and a physician certification form for medical marijuana. Once you have this you can then apply to the state.
Note that the doctor will electronically send these forms directly to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), and the Georgia DPH will review the information.
The Georgia DPH will review your information and create your Low THC Oil Registry Card. After approval for certification and a $25 registration fee, the Georgia Department of Public Health contacts registered cardholders, who must pick up their certification from one of 20 statewide offices.
Similar to the patient, a caregiver must consult with a physician and provide proof of residence to register for a low THC-oil card with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) in order to purchase or possess medicinal cannabis. The registration fee is $25, and the registration is valid for two years after approval. DPH defines caregivers as the parent, guardian, or legal guardian of a minor under 18 or the legal guardian of an adult.

A medical marijuana card in Georgia is valid for two years.
Georgia law allows the possession of up to 20 fluid ounces of low THC cannabis oil (high CBD) for residents who have a registered state card.
The Justice Department proposed a new rule to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule III drug, which would ease federal restrictions on cannabis if approved. This reclassification would not legalize or decriminalize marijuana nationwide but would place it on the same regulatory level as ketamine and anabolic steroids. Currently, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug, meaning it has "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse." The proposed change would recognize marijuana as having "a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence."
The proposal initiates a months-long comment and administrative period before any changes take effect. This follows President Biden's 2022 request for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Justice Department to review marijuana's classification. HHS found credible scientific evidence supporting marijuana's medical use. The notice of proposed rulemaking reflects the attorney general's agreement with HHS's recommendation. President Biden hailed the move as "monumental," emphasizing marijuana policy as a priority of his administration, which has also worked to pardon those convicted of simple possession.
The medical marijuana consultation with FadeMD costs $99, with a full refund if not approved. Georgia charges a separate $25 registration fee, which keeps the card valid for two years.
Georgia only permits the sale of low-THC oil, with a limit of up to 20 fluid ounces per patient.

Yes, to be approved for a medical cannabis license in Georgia, applicants must provide a state driver's license or identification card to prove residency.
Sign up with FadeMD for a 10-15 minute consultation with a certified physician. After approval, complete the two required state forms: a waiver signed by both the applicant and the physician, and a medical certification form filled out by the doctor.
